Hello & Welcome!

I love to cook and of course we all love to eat! The inspiration for this blog came from another blog that I started years ago when La Madeline took their Napoleon off the menu. That started a search through all of Houston to find the best Napoleon out there. If you claim to be a French bakery, it is only right that you serve Napoleons...and so that is how it all started!

Now we are looking for the best of anything we can think of, desserts, drinks, meat dishes, you name it. We are open to suggestions and if you have something we need to add to the list or a place to try, please feel free to comment and we'll start checking out more places.

Ribeye at Texas Roadhouse

Sometimes you just need a steak!  Texas Roadhouse knows exactly how to cook one up for you, and at a very reasonable price.  The ribeye is well seasoned and cooked to your liking.  If you haven't given it try, you should definitely stop by.  The atmosphere is very casual and country and the waitresses will break into song and dance at random moments throughout the night.

I have to mention...they start you off with their freshly baked yeast rolls and cinnamon butter that is nearly impossible to say no to!

Napoleon from Phoenicia

I feel like I have to continue a little bit with the quest for the best Napoleon I can find since that is http://napoleonpastry.blogspot.com/ to read about the other Napoleons that I've tried.
what started my blogging in the first place.  Visit my Napoleon Blog here

So, I just had to get a Napoleon when I saw it in the case staring at me saying, pick me, pick me!  Phoenicia's Napoleon was very good, the pastry was flaky and fresh and the pasty cream was made very well and tasted great!  It had powdered sugar on top, which is still not the traditional Napoleon, and it did have sliced almonds on the sides, unexpected, but tasty all the same.

Gyro at Dumar's Mediterranean Grill

Dumar's Mediterranean Grill is a small restaurant in Missouri City that serves some yummy Mediterranean food.  Whether you get the Gyro sandwich with fries or the Gyro plate with rice and salad, you'll be pleased with the great flavors.  Other favorites include the chicken shawerma and hummus.

You can always get a table at this quaint little place and be entertained by the quirky, friendly owner that will make you feel welcome.

Once I have enough of the Gyro, I'll be surer to try some other menu items and come back to tell you about it!

Brunch at Quattro in the Four Seasons

This is the best brunch that you've ever been to - hands down!  Try it, I'm sure you'll agree.  They offer amazing, fresh seafood including mussels, oysters, crab, salmon and caviar!  Their breakfast items are great, but don't eat too much, save room for the other awesome stations!  They have meats and cheeses, a Bananas Foster Station, Cross your Eyes good desserts. Then....in the kitchen; yes, you can go into the kitchen! They have carving stations with items such as veal roast, Tuscan chicken. Pizza, puff pastry with mushrooms and chicken filling, lamb curry, seafood stew, a make your own pasta station and soup bar!

It is pricey $60 a person, but worth it for a special occasion.  It does included Mimosas, Bloody Marys or Bellinis.
Look at TravelZoo, they sometimes have discount deals on there. (I paid $36 a person)

Red Fish at Baytown Seafood

I frequent the Baytown Seafood in Missouri City.  They have awesome grilled red fish that is
perfectly cooked and seasoned.  I usually get double veggies and it is always very fresh and well seasoned.  They also have dirty rice and baked potatoes as side options and you get a salad or cole slaw.  I like to start my meal with warm boiled shrimp, which is also very fresh and tasty!

Mixed Grill at Turquoise Grill & Bar

The Mixed Grill at Turquoise (I went to Sugar Land, but they have a Kirby location as well) is a great way to try all the different varieties of meats that they have available.  Lamb, beef, chicken, gyro (combo of beef and lamb) and kofte.  Definitely worth trying if you are a meat lover!  Pair that with salad, rice, or even hummus for the full Turkish experience!

Chicken Trio at Carrabas

The Chicken Trio at Carrabas has been a favorite of mine for a long time.  The Chicken Bryan is my favorite of the three with sun dried tomatoes and goat cheese on top.

I have to say Carrabas could do better with their side dishes.  Their sauteed spinach is something I'd avoid unless you want tons of garlic, and the only other vegetable is flavorless steamed spinach.  I usually get the soup and salad as my sides instead since I don't care for their pasta sides either.
